Campaign and Mobilisation Activities: The APC National Youth Wing has played a crucial role in shaping the democratic landscape of Nigeria. Notably, the vibrant and organized efforts of the Youth Wing were instrumental in the election victories of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 and his subsequent re-election in 2019. Furthermore, the Youth Wing played a pivotal role in securing the election of the current President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the February 2023 elections. The campaign and mobilization initiatives done to ensure the victory of APC candidates who ran for elective offices in 2023 were:
1. The Nationwide mobilization and energizing tour: The National Youth leader together with the zonal youth leaders and key APC young stakeholders and mobilizers toured 36 states in Nigeria to engage, and mobilize youth votes for the candidates of the APC as well as meeting the APC youth structures in the states to boost the moral for the 2023 election. Voter’s card collection campaign, market storm, and stakeholders’ engagement Townhall meetings were activities successfully carried out during the tour to ensure the APC remains the ruling party in the country.
The APC Youth Wing Campaign Council (Jagaban Movement): This campaign council was subdivided into 13 directorates that ensured an effective campaign on all fronts. The Jagaban Army directorate (our foot soldiers) was further broken down into state chapters so they could campaign according to the peculiarities of their states, and their major task was the ‘Deliver Your Street’ project. Other directorates includes the BAT Envoy(Public Affairs Directorate), Asiwaju Airforce (New Media Directorate), Student Engagement Directorate, Resource Mobilisation Directorate, Election Monitoring and Management directorate, Support Group Management Directorates, Advisory Council, The Technical Working Committee, Diaspora Affairs Directorate and the Creative Sector Engagement Committee.
Campus Storm: The National Leadership of the APC Youth wing and other young key stakeholders of the party met student unions governments and groups to obtain their support for APC candidates.
2. We Secured 50% discount on nomination form for young people under the age of 40. First time in the history of the party.
3. Progressive Youth Empowerment: Through partnerships with government and private institutions, the Wing facilitated grant opportunities such as the NYIF and Tools 4 Work programme for young entrepreneurs and small- to medium-sized business owners within the party, and so far, over 400 young progressives have been empowered through these grants and initiatives to support their businesses.
4. Leadership Development: the youth wing successfully organised a two-day Progressive Young Leaders Summit, Themed ‘AGENDA 2023’: The Nigeria we want, held in Abuja on the 18th and 19th September 2022 with over 4000 young leaders in attendance from across Nigeria and Africa; the biggest summit ever done by the APC youth wing. The summit featured powerful line-ups of past and present African leaders and young Nigerian achiever of Global repute as guest speakers and panellists.
5. APC Youth Wing Capacity-building Programmes: This includes the:
Operation Build 1000 Young Professional Real Estate Entrepreneurs: A monthly 3-days program, holding in Lagos, organised to train for young entrepreneurs who are interested in venturing into the real estate business on how to start and grow in real estate.
Vocational trainings were conducted for progressive young women in Northwest states in Nigeria in 2022 and 2023.
6. Aid Intervention: The National youth wing raised and donated funds, and other commodities to Communities affected by flooding and banditry in various states across Nigeria in 2022 and 2023 before the general elections.
7. High Profile Event and Festive Celebration: Organised high-profile events such as the Progressive Young Leaders Summit, the APC Youth Wing Iftar celebration and birthday dinner in honour of our president H.E Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja, and the APC Youth Wing Esther celebration and Thank You dinner on behalf of Mr. President in Lagos.
8. To engage the youth of our party post election and keep them connected to the youth wing, we hosted a Match Viewing Party for the AFCON Semi-Final and Final Match at the Party National Secretariat, featuring Live DJ, Free refreshments including Asun and Barbecue etc. Which created a sense of joy for the youth of the party who attended.
9. As part of our effort to mobilise Diaspora Support during the campaign, we hosted a Diaspora Town Hall meeting with Young Nigerians in the UK. The meeting had in attendance Senator Olamilekan YAYI from the Nigerian Senate, and other APC stalwart. Attended by hundreds of young Nigerians in the UK, the event was an avenue to shape opinions and win hearts and minds during the campaign.
